Would anyone be interested in joining an online PLC dedicated to literacy?
Personally, I don't have the answer to that question. If you do, however, think that is something you'd want to be part of, please let me know. If there are a few of us that think they would would that or benefit from that, then we could easily make it a go.
If you're still unsure, here is some additional information that might help you make a decision:
If we did this, we'd use a Moodle platform. It is an online learning platform that would have a secure asynchronous online classroom that we would log into. It might look a little something like this:
Once the Literacy PLC was set up, we would use it as an online asynchronous way to connect, discuss, share, and learn about how to be more effective at literacy instruction and learning as teachers. The benefit to doing something like this, versus getting together once a month for meetings, is that we can do it any time from any where that we have an internet connection. This would allow us to have ongoing dialogue and help without having to sacrifice after school time to do it.
If we were to do this, there would be no limit to what we could do together in terms of professional development related to literacy. That said, here were a few ideas that I had right off the bat. We could have an:
- Online forum to discuss work related Q&A
- Online article, strategy, or resource review and discussion
- Online resource sharing that would be for our secure users only
I really like the idea of this being a secure online thing for members of the Literacy PLC only (versus just putting everything on The Literacy Hub or something) because then we can feel safe and secure to discuss questions or concerns we have about instruction and can share our materials (such as units, novel studies, etc.) with people we trust at work.
If you would like to join me in creating an online Literacy PLC to help with the development and improvement of literacy instruction and learning, please contact me by email at [email protected] or through the contact page on this website.
Cheers.
