First Draft Writing in Ms. Dickinson's Class
Shortly after my blog post on first draft writing, Ms. Dickinson contacted me to share what she had been doing with her students in grade 1. I was very pleased to see how well she had been working with her students in this regard. I am also proud to say that Ms. Dickinson is only one example of many that are successfully implementing first draft writing into their language arts programs.

Ms. Smith - Literacy through Art in Grade 1
Here is a cool way that Ms. Smith incorporated literacy development in her art class. She had the students experiment with creative ways of writing their names. These are now on display in the hallway and in her class as evidence of student work - one of the many ways we can have/use classroom artifacts to facilitate literacy learning.
Blended Sounds in Grade 2
What a great way to spend a Friday morning!!! I had the chance to visit the grade 2 classrooms at the Primary School and saw a wonderful usage of classroom artifacts to facilitate the learning of sounds. I even had the students explaining and demonstrating knowledge of the sounds in Ms. Bergstrom's class! Check out the artifacts I found in Ms. Bergstrom's and Ms. Gizzie's classes.
Grade 1 @ NPS - Balanced Literacy in Action
I just wanted to give a shout out to the grade 1 teachers at NPS. I was able to meet with them on Monday afternoon and observed a number of classroom artifacts that are evidence of the balanced literacy framework being used in their classrooms. There were word walls in every room, a variety of other posters that relate to language learning, and books that were levelled to meet the reading and learning needs of students. Thumbs up all around!!! Check out some pics in the following slideshow!!!!
